Whereas, the Rio Grande-Rio Bravo basin is a primary lifeline for the residents of communities who live near this vital river;
Whereas, there cannot be a sustainable future if current generations do not rise to the challenge of improving the ecological conditions in the environs of this river basin;
Whereas, the sustainability of the region and its inhabitants is critical to the legacy we leave for our children, grandchildren and future generations;
Whereas, this sensitive ecosystem is being threatened by a careless use of resources, thus making the area less habitable and thereby diminishing the quality of life in the basin;
Now, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of the Rio Grande International Study Center (RGISC),
We, the undersigned, pledge:
To actively engage in pursuing and promoting sustainable policies and practices at individual, organizational, and societal levels;
To respect the river and its environs by preventing littering, dumping of hazardous material, and other practices harmful to the environment;
To become responsible consumers by using sustainable products, practicing recycling and minimizing waste;
To encourage others to respect the environment by taking full advantage of what the region has to offer while at the same time respecting and preserving these precious resources for the future.
Blessed are the RGISC-takers
