On July 1st, we found out that our once beautiful and thriving monarch garden at Eliseo Valdez Jr Park had been mowed down. We were scheduled to come in with volunteers for a maintenance session the next day, July 2, which we had to cancel.
We also found that our interpretative signage along with the "Plight of the Monarchs" mural by Tony Briones were tagged with graffiti.
This is crushing news for our organization considering the amount of time, effort, and funds that were spent to install this garden and mural. Unfortunately, we have no choice but to start from scratch.
We are working closely with the City of Laredo Parks Department to replace our fallen garden and return it to its former glory. Our timeline for garden maintenance for all 3 of our garden locations has been pushed back but remains active.
That being said, we are looking for volunteers to help us at our upcoming maintenance session this Saturday, July 16 from 8 AM to 10 AM. All ages welcome! Please join us in our efforts to revive the Eliseo Valdez Monarch Garden!
