Today, President Biden and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued an updated draft rule to cut methane and other harmful pollutants from oil and gas operations across the U.S. This proposal is an important step towards addressing the climate crisis, protecting the health and safety of communities across the country and prioritizing the creation of quality, family-sustaining jobs.
This announcement comes just ahead of President Biden’s address at the 27th Conference of the Parties, and after 105 groups sent him a letter at the beginning of the week urging the swift release of their draft methane proposal.
“This rule is much needed for states like Texas where lax regulation is the norm. We thank EPA for their efforts in creating new standards for the oil and gas industry to stop pollution that endangers the health of our communities, and ultimately, the well-being of our planet.”
