Her current research focuses on developing more sustainable gardening practices adapted to Laredo’s unique climate, with the goal of exploring practical approaches that can strengthen local environmental sustainability and community knowledge for the everyday Gardner.
Sharone’s journey with RGISC began as an intern, where she spent more than a year participating in year-round environmental programming before stepping into her current role. Today, she oversees a wide range of RGISC’s youth and community programs, including Birds of the Brush, Rio Research Roundup, Loving Laredo Hikes, Loving Laredo Paddles, and Eco-Explorer Camps.
At the heart of her work is the belief that environmental education and access to nature should belong to everyone. Whether introducing a child to a state park for the first time, connecting families to the Rio Grande, or exploring more sustainable ways to garden in South Texas, she strives to create programs that help people build a stronger relationship with the environment and the place they call home.
Outside of her work, Sharone is a proud mother to her son, Abram, and an avid animal lover. She enjoys keeping life low-key, spending time with her family, and embracing the quieter moments when she isn't planning her next community adventure.
