OUR MISSION
What is The Climate Cohort
The Laredo Climate Cohort is a skills-building program for college students developed by the Rio Grande International Study Center (RGISC). It seeks to build the capacity of students to become successful advocates for environmental activism, climate resilience, and social justice.
Mission Statement
The Laredo Climate Cohort empowers and equips college-age students to use diverse tools and resources to reimagine climate advocacy through a community-centered approach, featuring the lived experiences of those most affected by environmental challenges in Laredo, Texas.
COHORT 2024
Ten students explored how climate change affects Laredo through community interviews, photography, and storytelling—culminating in an exhibit that brings powerful local climate narratives to life.
A cohort of young climate advocates took to the streets of Laredo, using storytelling and art activism to spotlight urgent environmental issues and inspire community-driven solutions for a more sustainable future.
Seventeen students formed Laredo’s first Climate Task Force, championing solar-ready infrastructure and equitable tree canopy policies—securing unanimous city approval and shaping a sustainable future for Laredo.
