A group of college-aged community advocates developing skills in the areas of art activism, public speaking, persuasive writing, and storytelling through video-making to become the next generation of climate leaders. Students embarked on a citywide canvassing initiative, engaging with residents firsthand about the adverse impacts of rising temperatures and worsening droughts. Through this initiative, students unveiled high percentages of community concern regarding the state of the Rio Grande river (primary source of drinking water), lack of air quality monitoring by governmental agencies, physical limitations imposed by rising temperatures, shortage of tree canopies, and reclamation of wastewater as drinking water. Calling attention to the vital role of collaboration to view substantial progress and ensure a brighter future for Laredo. The climate cohort set the example of local initiatives taking strides toward a more sustainable future.
