This interactive map was created by the Rio Grande International Study Center (RGISC) to provide a clearer understanding of proposed U.S. border infrastructure projects in Webb County, Texas. The map features geospatial data visualizing several federal actions, including the installation of floating waterborne barriers (buoys), proposed border wall alignment segments, security enforcement zones, and existing border wall infrastructure.
All spatial information is derived from publicly available datasets provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which categorizes infrastructure segments as completed, under construction, awarded, planned, or proposed. The purpose of this map is to consolidate these disparate data layers into a user-friendly, localized resource that enables community members, landowners, public officials, and advocates to better understand the landscape-level impacts of proposed border barrier infrastructure along the Rio Grande in Webb County.
DISCLAIMER:
RGISC has not modified the content or geometry of original datasets by DHS. However, minor visual adjustments have been made to improve interpretation, for example, proposed floating barriers are represented as point symbols rather than lines. Additionally, a 60-foot buffer has been applied to the proposed border wall alignment segments to simulate the approximate security enforcement zone of construction activities, based on specifications published during prior 2020 border wall proposals. This modification is intended to provide a more accurate sense of spatial impact, particularly in urban or environmentally sensitive areas.
